Does spirituality and politics go together?

I have always been seeking for a female role model but couldn’t find someone who really touched my heart and brain at the same time until I “met” Marianne Williamson.

Marianne Williamson is the author of the best-selling book “Return to Love”, she is Oprah Winfrey’s spiritual advisor and is now running for president in the US.

And why do I find Marianne so interesting.

The reason is that Marianne mixes spirituality and politics and look at the underlying issues, when she argues in politics. She isn’t a democrat or a liberal, but uses her knowledge as a spiritual person, in her effort to expand the conversation and articulate the deeper layers in American politics,  – which she calls dysfunctional.

For instance, instead of talking about national security, she wants to talk about how we can make peace in the world: “Peace is not the absence of war, war is the absence of peace”, she says.  As a spiritual person she knows that we are all connected and it doesn’t help thinking in borders, but to start thinking in collaboration. Among other things she wants America to be the “honest broker” in order to move the peace process forward in the Israel and Palestine conflict.

If you know a little bit about quantum physics you know that the thoughts we choose, vibrate at a certain frequency that is drawn to elements at the same vibration; “like attracts like”. So the more we talk about conflicts the more we create conflicts, and the more we talk about how to solve the conflicts the more we release the conflicts.  This is why I can only agree with Marianne Williamson.

We now need someone who is able to look at the bigger picture in our world, and who doesn’t talk about symptoms but understand, that we need to change the underlying causes in order to change our world, the climate, the challenges of religious diversity and the increased differences between rich and poor.

Marianne dares to talk about compassion, love and even about God. I know in Denmark, it would be considered very naive by many people, to talk about God. I also know that Marianne thinks of God as a loving, intelligent energy – an energy that we are all part of.

And since I believe that we’re all part of the same energy, and must collaborate to transform this world into a beautiful place to live, we need spiritual people in politics. The way we have done things until now hasn’t really worked has it..!?

If you are American I will not ask you to vote for Marianne – since that is your choice – but I will encourage everyone to always live and vote from your hearts, in order to transform this world into the best place imaginable.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
